| Apologies for the delay, but our 'Profile' publication on the European Parliament will now be available once the EP releases details of its committees - which it should do on 22 July. The Profile - a four-page pdf file - includes details of what the EP is, what it does, how it works, political groups and committees, the President, and elections. |

EP-national relations The Treaty of Lisbon will - if adopted - increase the participation of national parliaments in EU affairs. There are already links between the European Parliament and national parliaments, with details available on the EP website. Materials include a newsletter and an overview of the main activities in the field of inter-parliamentary relations, presented in the form of an 88-page Yearbook - the first edition covering 2008. |

| Due to the difficult economic climate, the Association is not currently running any public training courses. We are, however, still able to offer in-house training, so if you and your colleagues would benefit from finding out about the EU, how it works and the documents it produces, please get in touch to discuss your requirements. |

Our AskEric enquiry service, exclusive to EIA Members, can confidential answering all manner of questions. Visit the website to logon and send your AskEric question. 'Is there an easy way to find out what’s going to be happening in the EU over the coming weeks?' is this week's selected question, to which Eric replied: August holidays usually mean that there is very little activity in the EU during the month, so there’s generally not a lot for us EU-watchers to get excited about. However, beyond the immediate few weeks there are a number of sources you can use to find out what’s on the agenda. Try the EU Calendar, which highlights selected events of the EU institutions and lets you view by week, month or quarter. In common with other Presidency websites, the current Swedish site maintains a diary showing forthcoming Meetings. There are also calendars / diaries for individual bodies. For the Council, try the Timetables and agendas page; for Parliament go to Activities - In brief where there are options to search for meetings and to view the EP calendar; for the Court of Justice see its calendar page (which incidentally reveals that there are no hearings between 13 July and 30 August this year). There are links on Europa to the websites of Institutions and other bodies and to the Press centers of some of them. |
