New training courses
New courses: 'Lisbon changes' and 'Europa changes', Friday 26 February 2010, London.

These two half-day courses will look at recent changes to how the EU works and where to find information about it.

'Lisbon changes' (morning) will highlight the main developments in the EU institutions and decision-making processes brought about by the new Treaty, including the advent of the General court, use of 'Union law' vs 'Community law', and extension of the 'ordinary legislative procedure'.
'Europa changes' (afternoon) will provide expert advice on navigating the new Europa website and its subsites, including EUR-Lex and Eurostat.

Delegates can attend one session or both. Prices for EIA members are £90 half day, £140 full day; non-member prices are £125 and £175 respectively.
The draft programmes can be viewed via our Training page, which also has an online booking facility.

The Association is also running a course on EU Funding. Taking place in London on 7 May, the course is being organised on behalf of the European Commission Representation in the UK. A programme and booking form are on the Commission website. Places are limited, so please book early.

Conference
Our 2010 conference will take place at the British Library on Monday 22 March. The day will include presentations on what to expect from the new EU, developments in EU information, and the Commission's information priorities.
We'll also be presenting the annual EIA Awards and holding our AGM.

Places are free to EIA Members, with a £30 charge for others. More details are on the website.

Publications
Finding out about the ESF and ERDF in the UK is the topic covered in our latest 'How To' publication. Issued as How To number 8, it can be accessed via our Publications page.

All EIA publications are free of charge to Members; non-members can buy them as pdf files.

Work continues on the revised edition of 'European information: a guide to official sources', which will now be available, once the new European Commission has been finalised.

On the web
European Railway Agency
Established in 2004, the ERA’s main task is to reinforce safety and interoperability of railways in Europe, and it has just launched a new website to help promote its work. Described as 'an important step for the Agency', the site 'incorporates a totally new navigation and design structure and thus better usability for users and content providers.'

National decisions database
Provided by the Association of the Councils of State and Supreme Administrative Jurisdictions of the European Union, this database contains more than 20,000 references to national decisions concerning Community law. Spanning 1959 to the present day, it contains:
national case law regarding EU law
references to books and articles related to national decisions and judgements delivered by the Court of Justice.

A recent questioner asked Eric Where to find online versions of C & L series of the Official Journal before 1998 - in particular, from 1976-77.

Eric's answer was: There is only very limited availability of the OJ in electronic form from 1976-77, because at that time there were no copies produced electronic electronically. At some point they may be scanned and made available, as all 'publications' and selected OJ issues have recently been, via the Digital Archive. At the moment, however, for full texts it's a question of finding them on paper or fiche.
Your task might be made easier if you know the reference(s) first. If you go to this page on EUR-Lex, you can enter year and OJ series (L/C) and retrieve a list of items published. A few are available in full text, but most have just a bibliographic reference (and titles from the OJ C items for those years appear to be in French only).
If you know which item(s) you're after, then it might be that it/they are important enough to have been made available electronically somewhere else.
If you really do want or need to browse all issues for those years, the best option is probably to track down paper copies or fiche in a European Documentation Centre. You can find your nearest EDC via the Europe Direct website.
