Essay competition
The EIA and Europe Direct Leeds are running a student essay competition, with a £200 prize, on the theme ‘Communicating Europe: Is the EU getting through to you?’
Conference
Our 2010 annual meeting will take place at the British Library on Monday 22 March. The day will include presentations on what to expect from the new EU, developments in EU information, and the Commission's information priorities.
Publications
A 'Starting Point' on climate change has just been added to the Publications section of our website.

All our Starting Point, Profile and How To guides have been updated to take account of changes to Europa, Eurostat and other websites. All our publications are free of charge to EIA Members; non-members can buy them as pdf files.

Twitter
Follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/euroinfo - where we aim to provide daily news of significant EU documents and other developments.
On the web
1989-2009: Europe, whole and free
‘Discover’, ‘Celebrate’, ‘Remember’ are the three main sections of this site, created to celebrate 20 years of European integration following the fall of the Iron Curtain. There’s a 'Testimonials, archives, videos and photos' part and a calendar showing selected events being organised within the framework of the 20th anniversary.

URBACT
The European exchange and learning programme promoting sustainable urban development – URBACT - has launched a new website to raise public awareness of major urban challenges. With details of projects, documents and news, it aims to ‘provide a shared space which sets the benchmark in terms of sustainable urban development.’

Training
The Association is not currently running any public training courses. We are, however, still able to offer in-house training, so if you and your colleagues would benefit from finding out about the EU, how it works and the documents it produces, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
AskEric
Our AskEric enquiry service, exclusive to EIA Members, can confidentially answer all manner of questions.

Visit the website to logon and send your AskEric question.

A recent questioner asked Eric how best to find an item in the Directory of Legislation in Force.

Eric answered: The Directory of Community Legislation in Force (DOCLIF) is organised according to a Commission system which is not always easy to navigate. There is often a good deal of guesswork needed to identify the section to which a particular piece of legislation has been allocated. This is particularly the case with subsections, when a significant amount of time can be wasted trying to find which of a number of divisions is the one required.
However, the good news is that DOCLIF is available in both html and pdf versions. The pdf files are not issued for sub-sections, but are issued for DOCLIF’s 20 main sections. So at any of the pages for the main sections, such as 15 Environment, consumers and health protection, there's a link to the print version. In this case it’s a 97-page file which is easy to search using the 'find' function.
