To mark International Women's Day on 8 March, the Commission has adopted a Women's Charter. Taking the form of a political declaration, it sets out five key areas for action and commits the Commission to build a gender perspective into all its policies for the next five years and to take specific measures to promote equality. The key actions are:
- equality in the labour market and equal economic independence for women and men
- equal pay for equal work and work of equal value
- equality in decision-making
- dignity, integrity and an end to gender-based violence
- gender equality beyond the EU
Also to coincide with International Women's Day, Eurostat has released a brief 'statistical perspective on women and men in the EU27'.
