EMU

The June 2012 European Council discussed the report ’Towards a Genuine Economic and Monetary Union’, which set out ’four essential building blocks’ for the future of EMU. Leaders called on the President of the European Council and others to develop a ’road map for the achievement of a genuine Economic and Monetary Union, which will include concrete proposals on preserving the union and integrity of the Single Market in financial services’. A recent Council 'Issues paper’ on completing EMU includes the text of the June report and sets out issues for discussion by those involved, with the aim of achieving consensus on a roadmap for both the short- and long-term development of a more integrated financial framework.
